The Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening DX HD is the definitive version of one of the most beloved games of the Zelda saga, the legendary Link's Awakening DX, released in 1998 exclusively for Game Boy Color. Thanks to this port, which has none of the assets of the original game, you can play this game in a better way than ever on PC, with lots of small fixes and a higher resolution, all while keeping the title's original essence.
Quick installation and setup
As mentioned above, The Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening DX HD does not feature any of the assets from the original game. For that reason, to install the game, you need to complete the following steps. First, download a port of Link's Awakening DX itself, which can easily be found on the Internet Archive. After unzipping it, move the The Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening DX HD executable (called LADXHD.Patcher) into the same folder. Finally, double-click on the executable to patch the game and start playing.
Why not just play the other version?
The version of Link's Awakening found on the Internet Archive was uploaded to Itch.io in 2023 by an anonymous user. And although it is very interesting, it has a number of annoying bugs and some changes that make it different from the original. The Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening DX HD, on the other hand, offers an improved, bug-free experience that manages to stay true to the essence of the Game Boy Color game. In addition, since there are no official assets in the code, this version is more secure.
Same old Zelda, but better than ever
The Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening DX HD is basically the sequel to A Link to the Past. After the events of this game, Link got on a ship to continue his adventures, but his ship ran into a big storm and was shipwrecked. When Link awoke, he was on the mysterious Koholint Island. And this is the starting point for this game. Mechanically, the adventure is very similar to other titles in the saga: you will have to collect different objects that allow you to make Link stronger, while unlocking new areas of the map. It is a Zelda game, after all.
